Club History

Bayside Swimming Club as we know it today was formed on May 5th 2000, as a result of Mentone Bayside Swimming Club and Team TH Swimming Club merging.

Team TH was formed in 1995 to support swimmers at Toby Haenen Swim Centres. The origins of the red uniform started at this club, and have continued to evolve as part of the Bayside Swimming Club tradition. With the opening of Mentone Grammar Aquatic Centre, many of the senior swimmers from Team TH began their squad training at Mentone. Close ties were formed with Mentone Bayside Swimming Club, as many of the swimmers from both clubs trained together, and a merger ensued.

The Mentone Bayside Swimming Club Inc (MBSCInc) commenced on 8 November 1998, and commenced swimming at the Mentone Grammar Aquatic Centre from 29 January 1999. MBSCInc was established by incorporating Sandringham Brighton Swimming Club which was the surviving club from a succession of mergers of the original Port Philip Bay swimming clubs.

The Mentone Bayside Swimming Club Inc MBSCInc’s, later to become Bayside Swimming Club, original precursor clubs have a long history dating back to October 1893 as follows:

  • Brighton Swimming Club joined 1895
  • Sandringham Swimming Club joined in 1926 (subsequently changed name to Dendy)
  • Dendy Swimming Club credited as having joined in 1926
  • Brighton Beach Swimming Club joined in 1928
  • Sandringham Brighton Amateur Swimming Club joined in 1979
  • SBASC incorporated as Sandringham Brighton Swimming Club Inc. on 21 Dec 1983

We have a long and proud history dating back over 100 years and incorporates swimming clubs from the Sandringham and Brighton localities.

The rest is history and an exciting new club named Bayside Swimming Club is the result.
